The young Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3 rookie, Enea Bastianini, claimed today at Silverstone his second consecutive podium finish, taking the third place in the British Grand Prix. The 16-year-old rider from Rimini engaged a great battle for the victory, taking the lead of the large leading group in the fifth of 17 scheduled laps; with six laps to go Bastianini was able to open a gap together with Rins, Marquez and Oliveira, with whom he fought for the win until the last corner, closing the race in third place, just 72 thousandths behind the winner, Alex Rins.Even Bastianini’s teammate, Niccolò Antonelli, tried to join the fight for the podium, but a contact with Rins caused him to lose ground, forcing him to fight in the middle of the group without the possibility to catch the first four riders.
NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (7th)“I’m not happy, because today we could get more: as always, I struggled in the early laps, then I found my rhythm and I was able to take second place, but after that a contact with Alex Rins made me lose all the positions I had gained. I found myself in the middle of the group, where the battle with the other riders made me lose time and as a result the first four riders were able to open a small gap. The seventh position doesn’t satisfy me, I wanted to fight for the podium but due to the battle with other rider it was not possible. We will try again in Misano”.
ENEA BASTIANINI (3rd)“Today I would really like to win, because in the last four laps I was in the lead and I thought I had something more than the other riders; but unfortunately, three corners from the finish line, they made me go wide a bit and I couldn’t resist on the outside. I still have to improve a bit my strategy for the final stages of the race. I'm happy anyway, even though the victory this time was really close... Today we had everything to get it, maybe we just lack a little experience, but we are doing it! However, I think that in the next races, starting from the Misano round, we will still be part of the game. After crossing the finish line, while I was greeting Rins for the win, I was hit by Hanika from behind: in the fall I also hit my injured right foot, but fortunately I feel good”.
FAUSTO GRESINI“Bastianini fought till the end like a lion to win: considering how he rode today, the third place leaves a little bitter taste in the mouth, but we are obviously delighted with this result, which shows once again the potential of this young guy. Congratulations to him and also to the team. Antonelli has been fast all weekend her, so he expected more than the seventh place: anyway, also Niccolò battled with determination making another step forward, not only in qualifying but also in the race”.
